charger port repairIf you connect your cell phone to a battery charger, but the phone does not charge, the first thing you suspect is that there is something wrong with the battery. If your battery is new, or if you have otherwise tested its charge, the problem might be with the charging port in your mobile phone. If you frequently connect and disconnect your phone from a battery charger, it can cause wear and tear on the charging port. The charging port can also get damaged if you drop your phone or if the phone gets immersed in water or if it gets a substantial amount of water spilled on it. It is also possible for dust and other debris to clog the charging port of your phone.
If dust and dirt are the source of your charging port problems, it is sometimes possible to restore the function of your charging port just by cleaning it. You can spray the charging port with compressed air to remove as much of the dust is possible. If you try that, and the phone still does not work, you may need to clean the charging port with rubbing alcohol. To do this, turn off the phone and remove its battery, then dip a paper towel in rubbing alcohol and use it to swab the charging port gently. Whatever you do, do not pour rubbing alcohol or any other liquid into the charging port or any other part of your phone. Sometimes the problem is that the phone charger you are using is not right for your phone. Most phones today are sold with a charger that is made specifically for that phone. Phone charger models can change as quickly as phone models, so just because a charger looks like the one that came with your phone, and just because you can physically insert it into your phone’s charging port, it does not mean that the charger is right for your phone. You can only be completely sure that a charger is compatible with your phone if the charger came in the same box with the phone when you bought it. If you are sure that it is the right charger, check to see whether the tension clips on the edges of your charger have become squished from repeated use. If they have, you can use a sewing needle to restore them to their original position. Cleaning your charging port and adjusting the tension clips on the charger are fairly simple types of home maintenance and can be performed at home. If you try these things and your phone still does not charge, you may actually need to get the charging port repaired or replaced.
